We’ve all experienced it: A moment, event or circumstance in life that inspires us to stop what we are doing and take action to help. When we saw the massive destruction that Hurricane Harvey caused for the people of Houston and the surrounding communities, we knew it was our moment to help.
Peach stylists inspire support for Hurricane Harvey victims
As the magnitude of the horrific flood was unfolding, our stylist community mobilized to help Harvey victims. In a matter of hours, Peach stylists from Houston and around the country went to social media to connect people with the individuals and organizations on the ground that were best positioned to help. In the days immediately following Harvey, thoughtful messages continued to pour in through texts, calls, emails, and Facebook posts from our stylist community.
Our stylists identified the ideal way to directly reach people on the ground: Undies for Everyone, a Houston-based, charitable organization leading the effort to collect and distribute clean underwear to Hurricane Harvey victims. Peach is a fashion startup that sells athleisure apparel, underwear and bras, so it was a natural fit for our donation.
As a direct sales company, the most important way we bring our products to life is through our national network of Peach stylists. We often refer to our stylist community as the heartbeat of the company. Their initiative to help in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey is a perfect example of the strength of this beat.
Peach sends over 9,000 pairs of women’s underwear to Undies for Everyone
Can you imagine waking up each morning and one of the first challenges you face is whether you will have access to clean underwear? Can you imagine how that would make you feel? How it would impact your day and your confidence?
This is the work Undies for Everyone (UFE) tackles every day. Their core mission is to provide clean underwear to disadvantaged students in Houston and Dallas, believing clean underwear keeps children in the classroom and bullies at bay. Led by Founder and Executive Director Rabbi Amy Weiss, Undies for Everyone distributed over 500,000 pairs of underwear to kids in need since it opened its doors in 2008.
In the wake of Hurricane Harvey, Undies for Everyone expanded their efforts to ensure all survivors – men, women and children – can access clean, in-package underwear. In doing so, they set a powerful example for how the worst of circumstances can bring out the best in people.
With UFE, we saw our opportunity. By providing this critical necessity, we could make the coming days a little easier for some women. Additionally, Peach sent many large boxes of apparel to local Houston stylists to distribute to other charitable organizations and churches.
Houston holds a special place in the heart of Peach
When you work at a startup, you’re building a company from scratch; because of this, the people that help in your earliest days always hold a special place in your heart. The city of Houston was one of our first markets and played a key role in Peach’s launch.
Houston is the special place so many of our stylists, customers, investors, and ambassadors call home. Being able to give back to Houston by supporting the Hurricane Harvey relief efforts made the experience all the more rewarding.
To date, Undies for Everyone has received 300,650 underwear donations to support Hurricane Harvey relief. If you are interested in contributing to this effort, you can learn more here.
